More states look to casinos for jobs and revenue
Thuesday, 24 January 2012
More and more states are now looking at casinos as a way of creating jobs and generating revenue in this time of economic difficulty.Following the new law in Massachusetts that authorises three new resort-style casinos and a slots parlour, possibly one of these in Boston, the states of Florida, New York and Illinois have initialised their own plans.A state Senate panel in Florida this month authorised a bill which lays the foundation for the building of three new casinos, one of which could be located in Miami.

An expansion of casino operations in the Aqueduct Racetrack, New York City, was proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Governor also called for a constitutional amendment, which would allow casino gambling across the state. In Illinois, lawmakers are now trying to revive efforts to bring a casino to Chicago.
These developments have Las Vegas on edge, they fear competition from casinos in cities such as New York, Miami and Boston just as they're pulling themselves out of a three year rut.
